The commission Falla Manuel de Falla-Tamarindos unveiled a new monument this Monday dedicated to the Maratón de València, aiming to become the longest falla ever planted in the city at 42 metres. Local and national officials attended the presentation, including the Fallera Mayor Carmen Pradas, Valencia mayor María José Catalá, Madrid mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Valencia sports councillor Rocío Gil. The installation reproduces the race finish line at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias with an arch, timing displays and the iconic blue runway. The commission presented the piece under the slogan “World Record”, framing the work as a tribute to the race and as an example of creative ambition from a lower-budget falla group.
Design, figures and institutional support
The monument stages a detailed finale scene populated by ninots representing key figures linked to the race: Paco Borao of SD Correcaminos (who appears as a ninot), runner Luis Félix Martínez of Club de Atletismo Cárnicas Serrano, the official race speaker and other familiar profiles from media and volunteer teams. The presentation included a live re-creation of the race start by the official speaker. The falla, classified in the fourth category, competes for the Junta Central Fallera award for Ingenio y Gracia. Organizers credited sponsors of the Maratón de València Trinidad Alfonso Zurich—including Teika, Patatas Meléndez, Isaval, New Balance and Cárnicas Serrano—for enabling the scale required to pursue the record claim.
