The 2025 editions of the Maratón Valencia and the Medio Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich generated a combined €59 million in tourist spending across Valencia and its metropolitan area, according to impact studies by the Ivie presented this morning. The surge reflects higher participation, notably from international runners, and longer stays that boosted daily expenditure. The 45th marathon drew nearly 35,000 runners, while the 34th half marathon attracted 27,681 starters, both contributing hotel nights, dining and local transport revenue. Organisers’ spending and visitor outlays together increased total demand for goods and services, supporting regional output and jobs in 2025. The report details spending patterns, sector winners and fiscal returns linked to both races.
Participation, spending and economic footprint
The marathon produced €45.2 million in tourist spending with 65.5% foreign participants, while the half marathon added €13.8 million and a 42.6% foreign share, totalling €59 million. Survey-based daily spending was markedly higher for international runners: marathon foreigners averaged €197.1 per day versus €151 for nationals; half-marathon foreigners averaged €156.8 versus €116.3. Combined effects—tourist spend plus event costs—generated €69 million in additional demand, €36 million in regional GDP and 1,050 full-time equivalent jobs: €27.5 million GDP and 800 jobs from the marathon, €8.6 million GDP and 250 jobs from the half marathon.
Costs, multipliers, sectors and fiscal return
Organisers spent over €10 million on both events (€7.6m marathon, €2.5m half), delivering strong multipliers: each euro invested yielded €5.9 in tourist spending for the marathon and €5.6 for the half. Average return was €3.6 of GDP per euro invested. Sectors benefiting most were hospitality (40.6% of generated GDP; 48.8% of jobs), business services and real estate, and retail. The events also contributed €20 million in public revenue in 2025 (€15m from the marathon, €5m from the half).
